FORGING

Forging Process

DIE FORGING

Die forging is a forming to produce blanks, which nearly or completely comply with the contour of the finished part. In doing so the heated blank, which can also be pre-formed, is placed into the lower die.

The upper die hits from above on the blank and forms it to the required forging. The excess material is blocked out into the flash gutter and later removed in a separate operation (flash pressing). Several operations and moulds can be necessary for the forming. The heating of steel happens on induction heaters. Aluminium parts are heated in a jet heating furnace.

Preforming, Flash-Pressing, Hole-Punching, etc.

These operations are performed on excentric – and crank presses with press capacity of 800 to 6000 kN.

Hardening and Tempering in Protective Atmosphere

At hardening in a protective atmosphere the unwanted internal oxidation can be avoided by means of a controlled gaseous atmosphere. The quenching happens in oil or polymer solution.

HORIZONTAL UPSETTING

Basically forming on horizontal upsetting machines is similar to die forging on hammers or presses. The punch is adequate to the upper die on die forging.

The clamping mould is similar to the lower die and consists of a mobile and a fixed mould half. The blank is placed into the fixed mould half and afterwards clamped with the mobile mould half. Then the forming happens through the horizontal movement of the punch. Several operations can also be necessary here.

We have one horizontal upsetting machine with a press capacity of 1300 kN at our disposal. The heating of the material happens on induction heaters.
